A lovely show with a warm audience on a cold night. Steve Poltz presented yet another unique show – I’ve not seen him play the same set or even the same song twice yet! If any young guitarist wants to know what stage presence is then who could resist suggesting a Steve Poltz show. Watch and learn.

Glenn was on top form – but not top hat form – as the hat appears to have been left behind. The set has now changed significantly – I’ll listen to the great CD and post the setlist soon. Gone was the extreme experimental iPad random tone audience participation (if that’s the best way to describe it!) which is a great shame. I love the extreme creativity and challenge to the audience which some of the earlier shows presented. It’s a change from the pub entertainer-style shows Glenn’s been doing for over a decade. Do I really need to hear Goodbye Girl acoustic ever again? (Answer: Yes, I probably do!)

A great show amongst friends.

  David, I couldn’t agree more! I saw the early Swindon show (where Glenn was treated to cries of “we want Squeeze”) and the Reading show on Friday and, while I totally enjoyed both, I much preferred the looser Swindon show.
  
  Glenn obviously feels that he needs to keep people onside by playing the old songs but it feels a real shame to me that he doesn’t have the confidence to sever his ties with Squeeze a little more. I love his solo stuff and I worry that he’s in danger of becoming a karaoke singer leading the singalongs. I told him this at Swindon and asked him to ignore the doubters but It looks like he doesn’t have the confidence in his own material to push it to the fore.
  
  I guess it’s a little catch-22; he won’t build up a true fanbase for his new material until he let’s go of Squeeze, but then he probably won’t make the money he’s making now. A difficult position to be in.
  
  Still, loved both shows!
