I couldn’t wait for the third Sunday in June to bring you this – a classic unreleased recording of Difford and Tilbrook’s Fathers’ Day sung by Paul Young from the Difford & Tilbrook period between Squeeze lineups in 1983.

Fathers’ Day

Father’s Day was a comedy series which aired on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom in 1983. It starred John Alderton trying to make sense of family life.

  1. Brilliant. Thanks for sharing this with us. Sounds just as I remember, very D&T. I quite liked the series and watched a lot of C4 in it’s early years. Far more creative than most of the tripe that’s served up nowadays. Or, is it just another example of me getting old?

  2. Sounds fab just like a song off of the Difford and Tilbrook album. Thank’s for posting this. Shame it wasn’t on the Difford and Tilbrook album. Many don’t like that album but I myself think it is good.

    1. I can’t help thinking that it sounds just like the Sweets From A Stranger album – I’d love to know who played on Fathers’ Day as it sound just like Don Son (Jonn Savannah) on keyboards. I always loved Jonn’s keyboard sound – really rich sounds and confident fingering.

Now I just need to work out what a couple of lines in the lyrics are and I can add them to the songbook.
