Just found this site, and many kudos for the obvious love and effort!

I was at this show. The Arlington is a beautiful venue with a horrible sound system for anything other than acoustic or orchestral bands. I can honestly say I don’t remember as much about this show as the two I saw at the Majestic Ventura Theater in the years following, except that they dealt with the sound well, and one other non-Squeeze related bit:

Some band called “10,000 Maniacs” opened for Squeeze. I remember not caring a tinker’s damn about this unknown band, sitting in the indoor/outdoor bar, drinking my way through their set, until Natalie began singing Cat Stevens’ “Peace Train” – okay, I was intrigued.

So I entered the theater, and watched this shy singer, standing at the front of the stage, a shock of black hair hiding her face and the microphone. Clear, sweet tones. Amazing voice, really. But so shy!

Anyway, it tickled me in the ensuing years how popular her band, and then she, became. How her face was suddenly all over the TV, when I hardly caught a glimpse of it that first time…

But yeah, Squeeze didn’t disappoint. Probably why the other story was so memorable. Back then, every time I saw them perform, I was happy.
