My very first Squeeze show. Paul Carrack/Some Fantastic Place tour.

Before the show they did an ‘in-store’ performance and autograph session at Turtles music store. My best friend had just started a job that day as a waitress in a cafe. She was taking me to see Squeeze that night but when I heard about the in-store, I rudely called her work and begged her to get off early! She kindly obliged and we headed to Turtles. They were already on stage singing a few songs, I think one of them was cold shoulder. I don’t think the full band was on the mini stage. Then we lined up, I ended up right near the front, and Squeeze came out and sat at a table to sign autographs. I was thrilled – Paul, Chris and Glenn were sitting right there feet away from me. I had no camera with me, but Turtles sold disposables – unfortunately it had no flash. I got Paul to stand with me for a few dark, grainy pictures that I absolutely treasured! I was his biggest fan and was just over the moon to meet him. Glenn and Chris smiled a lot, definitely amused to see me being such a fool for Paul.

Then it was off to the Roxy! I remember they played Hourglass, Cold Shoulder – somewhere I have the set list I ripped off one of the speakers after the show. I bought a “Squeeze This Baby” t-shirt and people would ask if I was pregnant when I wore it.

We tried to wait out back after the show to meet them, but gave up after awhile. I remember one woman out waiting wearing a T-shirt with giant letters on it that said “ROCK FUCK” and thought that was pretty good advertising.

I was a Squeeze fan who wanted to meet them and be their best friend… not the rock fuck variety. LOL.

Later I made a goal in life to become friends with them and that dream did eventually come true (with countless hours of work on a little fan website called squeezefan.com) and lots of quality stalking! :-)
