Well, having been one of those who thought the ticket price was a bit steep and who had reservations about the whole re-forming thing, I went last night not quite knowing if I wanted to go. And I had a FANTASTIC time! The atmosphere was amazing, the sound wasn’t perfect (at the front – second row,
in front of Chris – who’d expect it to be?) but was better than other times I’ve seen them at the Colston when I’ve been leaning on the stage, Glenn and Chris seemed to be having a ball, the songs came relentlessly, and I didn’t lose my big silly grin all evening! I have no idea how it sounded elsewhere
in the hall (my husband was off to the right on the barrier and said it was pretty terrible, but in front of a speaker what did he expect?!), but I wouldn’t have swapped being in the thick of it for perfect sound further back! Chris sounded great, could have done with his vocal turned up a bit, but he’s gained confidence in his singing and he was doing his little dance and looked very happy. Stephen was amazing, looking very dapper in his suit (as were they all), Simon was great, Lucy would have looked better than John Bentley on bass but he did a pretty good job, and Glenn……well, was Glenn. Awesome. I’ve always said that Bristol crowds are reserved and take some time to get going…..not last night! Having the front seats taken out and not being forced to sit down by officious bouncers helped enormously, and it was certainly a bit sweaty, which adds to the ambience (though perhaps the water and cups at the ready, as well as the presence of a brick shithouse with “audience safety” emblazoned across his back, was a bit
much – were they expecting to have to drag fainting 50-year-olds out of the crush, or fend off middle-aged stage-divers?), but the crowd were singing from the first song, it was wonderful to hear. I suspect some of the song choices lost a few but it was fantastic to hear Maidstone and some of the more obscure album tracks as well as the Greatest Hits setlist.
Review written after the fact….though I have it down as 2nd not 3rd……

My daughter and I sang ourselves hoarse, my ears are ringing gently this morning – though it wasn’t nearly as loud as some gigs I’ve been to – but, having been
unwell since the summer, it was the most fun I’ve had in months!!

Oh, and Mr Nick Harper was in da house! Up in the balcony, nodding along, great to see him!!

Was it worth £32.50? Oh, YES!!!!!
