  So what did you think of the show Tyrone? I loved the venue again. Whoever chose all these wonderful historic halls for the tour has done a great job!
  After a six hour drive I arrived with just minutes to spare, abandoned my car in a side street near a river and then had to queue at the box office behind someone having problems with their ticket.
  When I finally got in the show started immediately and the crowd seemed to love it. There was the usual mix of stories and songs with some great questions thrown in. It’s a shame they floundered with the ‘What three words would you use to describe one another.’ It’s great that Glenn confirmed they’re recording the new album for the Danny Baker TV project in Jan to Mar next year and will be doing full tours of the UK and USA late next year.
  Despite doing so many dates they both seemed quite happy with one another and stayed for ages to get merchandise signed and have photos taken.
  I walked out into the night into heavy rain with no idea where my car was.
  A great night.

    I wish I had known you were coming, though by the sound of things you wouldn’t have had time to have a pint beforehand.
    I thought it was absolutely fantastic! I have to confess to being a little concerned beforehand that, for the casual Squeeze fan, there might have been too much new or previously unheard material but they got the balance spot on. It was great to hear “Points of View” and “Everything In The World” as well as Chris’ brilliant “Fat As A Fiddle” (a woman a few seats to the side of me was in fits of laughter). Unfortunately, Glenn was unable to answer my question about when he intended releasing his final demo CD (did you guess it might be me asking that question?) so I guess I’ll have to wait a few more years.
    Did you keep a note of the set list? I’m afraid I got too immersed in the event for any logical thinking.
    I got a soaking during the 2 mile walk home.The 5:30 am rise this morning was a little laboured and I’ve needed matchsticks to keep my eyelids up this afternoon!
    I hope I don’t have to wait another 18 years before seeing them together in York again.

“Squeeze frontmen Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook are playing and joking together again, sharing songs and stories on their The At Odds Couple tour.

Responsible for some of the most popular hits of British pop music, the pair were hailed as “the heirs to Lennon and McCartney’s throne” during the height of their popularity in the early 1980s, and have continued to enjoy success both individually and together.

As the lights went down the audience fell into a hushed silence, only to burst out laughing as the lights went up again and revealed Difford and Tilbrook lying in bed together, in pyjamas, surrounded by gaudy Seventies’ decor. The duo then proceeded to launch into a hearty two-man rendition of Take Me I’m Yours, still in pyjamas, before getting dressed and starting properly.

Clearly having a ball, they played an enthusiastic mix of Squeeze hits and solo songs, ranging from cool and collected to plain old silly, Difford’s hilarious Fat As A Fiddle and Tilbrook’s ridiculously simple I’ll Buy You An Ice-Cream As Big As Your Head being particular highlights.

The show also gave the audience several chances to ask the pair some personal questions about their careers, providing some very amusing moments between songs, including the origin of the expression “Pulling Mussels From A Shell”, Tilbrook’s most embarrassing moment in music and a discussion on the whereabouts of his band The Fluffers, among other things.

All this wonderful nonsense culminated in a great finale and encore, featuring some of their biggest and best hits including Cool For Cats, Labelled With Love and Goodbye Girl, which had the audience singing along throughout and applauding long after.

Difford and Tilbrook delivered a brilliantly funny and excellently performed night of music and mirth, more than earning the standing ovation that followed them off stage.”

I was at the concert – I haven’t stopped playing all their songs since then, having ‘discovered’ a load of new ones as well like Fantastic Place and Electric Trains. They were amazing. Can’t wait for next years’ concerts.
