The final night of the tour and Glenn and Chris are still in great voice. There’s no sign of vocal strain, the anecdotes are still refreshingly delivered and questions from the audience are fielded with humour and patience.
Questions tonight included “Glenn, what’s happened to the Furbies?” We soon realised that he meant ‘Fluffers’. The dreaded “What was the inspiration for Some Fantastic Place?” was passed on to Chris from Glenn and Chris talked fondly about Maxine without mentioning her name or details.
Glenn gave an old car horn and a mannequin’s head to two audience members in the front row (the usual suspects – you know who you are) and broke down laughing mid-song when the hooter of the horn sounded in the most inappropriate place. Classic.
Tonight the Man in the Golden Cape, Miles, the man with the roving microphone was wearing white platform boots as he made his way unsteadily through the audience. They loved it.
There was just time to take some photographs of friends with the band before I was off into the night for a four hour drive home. At least the roads were empty at 2am. The road stretches out as far as I can see.
