Hurry! – Only a few days left to get ‘Recorded Here: The Early Days of Squeeze’

Your chance to get a fabulous book of Squeeze photographed early in their career by photographer and manager Lawrence Impey – but hurry!

There’s a new Squeeze Kickstarter campaign available for just a few more days – an amazing book of Squeeze photos from 1975-76. Here’s what Lawrence Impey has to say:

“Back in the 1970s, just after I’d completed a three year photography course at Bournemouth & Poole College of Art & Technology, I was lucky enough to come across a group of teenage musical geniuses from Southeast London. The band, which included Glenn Tilbrook, Chris Difford and Jools Holland, was called Squeeze.  When I became involved in their management I saw a great opportunity to take photographs as they rehearsed, toured and recorded and the majority of this unique photographic record has been sitting in my archives ever since.

“Last year I edited and published ‘Tonewood’, a high quality book of poetry and photographs. I now plan to publish a book on Squeeze, which involves digitizing my hundreds of Squeeze negatives and then selecting the best images for the book.”

How great an opportunity is this to get your hands on such a wonderful book? Even better, there are different pledges you can make which include getting hold of A4 prints as well. Marvellous. It’ll only go ahead if it reaches its funding target by 29 February. Check the link here.

Lawrence’s journey in photography began when he was given a Kodak Brownie 127 camera for his ninth birthday. Since graduating from Bournemouth & Poole College of Art & Technology in 1974 his photographs have been published in numerous books and magazines, including Mojo,Q and Rolling Stone. He now works mainly on self-directed projects often using monochrome film which he processes and digitises:”Both tonally and in terms of image structure I see a marked difference in the results compared to digital”. In 2007 his exhibition ‘On The Beat’ was held in Hackney, East London, in 2015 his ‘Signs Of The Seventies’ exhibition was held in Santiago de Compostela, Spain and in 2019 his book ‘Tonewood’, co-authored with the poet Sue Rose, was launched at The Poetry Society. Lawrence lives in Greenwich, South London.
