1975

Here’s Chris Difford’s latest Radio Record (as they call singles nowadays). It’s a classic Difford lyric entitled 1975 and is from his fantastic new project Saturday Morning Music Club – pay a visit and get involved!

  1. Well, what a fantastic way to buy new music. The ‘Cashmere if You Can’ experience is well worth buying into. £17 seems a very reasonable amount of money for what you get. In the first selection, called The Introduction (to be followed by Chapters 1, then 2 like a book) you get:;

    A video from the ‘All About Me Tour’, four tracks including:
    1975
    Funky Dory
    Polestar
    Battersea Boys (demo)

    and some great snapshots. It’s all contained within a media player using Adobe Air (the same software as BBC’s iPlayer) and worked like a treat. I paid by PayPal and was enjoying the music just a couple of minutes later. Highly recommended!

  2. I couldn’t agree more. While I’m itching to get my hands on the physical format of the album, I’m really enjoying this whole concept and can’t wait for Saturday. I can’t believe what great value for money too when you look at all the stuff you are getting. The extra tracks are great. I’m enjoying Funky Dory especially and only hope that more from those sessions will see the light of day. Normally if there is a way that technology can ruin my day, it will but I had no problems with this and everything has been plain sailing (that’s jinxed it!)
    Amidst all the IT fun though I want to mention what a great song 1975 is. Chris is really on top form and I hope the content of this album gets as much attention as its format because it looks like being a cracker.

    • @wishy, Couldn’t agree more! I download a lot of music but when it comes to my Squeeze-related listening, I insist on having the CD in my shelf. So when this format was announced, I wasn’t too sure. But week one has really wet my appetite and I think the extra tracks and videos have been a real treat.

      It’s interesting to hear him say he may throw some Squeeze demos in!

      • @Jose, Yeah the demos sound very intriguing. I’m presuming this must refer solely to Squeeze songs that Chris sang ultimately or do we know if he ever recorded anything to present to Glenn for him to work on. I thought he always just past on his lyrics in writing. Either way very interesting.

        • @wishy, I got the impression it meant demos for songs that Chris had written prior to his involvement with Glenn, as I doubt the Squeeze demos are really his to release!

          • @dandewey1974, well obviously Glenn has the demos he did when Chris has handed over the words. I don’t know how the process worked but I don’t see why Chris wouldn’t own demos the band recorded? Maybe half of the royalties would have to go to Glenn or something?

    • @wishy, Funky Dory is a great song, but just watch out for the lyrics to Polestar! Some classic Difford writing here – and I’m glad the release format is getting some praise too.
