And then there was ‘Squeeze’ on Sunday. Well, what can you say? The set was only a shortish one because they were support, but they got plenty of reaction from the audience. They did both songs that Chris sang on Friday which was kind of weird. And when Glenn introduced the space that wasn’t Chris, no one shouted out ‘He was here on Friday’ although if I’d been nearer the stage, I might have… My friend who went with me, who is not a particular Squeeze fan, declared after the gig that they knocked the spots off Blondie both musically and vocally. So there you have it. An unbiased opinion. In fact he was so impressed that he decided he wanted a ticket to see Glenn Tilbrook solo at the Concorde on the 13th December. Another
convert! I didn’t feel Squeeze really had time to get into stuff properly, but I like the Randy Newman song – the gaps are an interesting thing – and I liked Glenn’s decision to try out the James Brown method of relating to an audience. Apparently you shout ‘eh!’ and the audience shouts back ‘eh!’ He declared this less wordy than his usual methods.
Anyway, I can’t wait for December 13th now.
And for anyone who’s interested, we thought Blondie were Not Very Good, actually.
