I had only seen him once, with Squeeze in ’93, and there was no indication then of his engaging stage presence and clever wit. Just a great solo performer; funny, interactive, excellent guitarist and singer, and great songs. Probably the most entertaing solo performance I’ve ever seen. It’s remarkable how he strains to produce that superb voice. Also
remarkable is the abundance of chords he uses in each song. He’s all ove the neck, and only saw him falter on one chord change. Just for Seattle, he did an excellent version of Hendrix’s Voodoo Chile.
