Review posted on Squeezelist (probably!)….
Staggered in at 1.15am or thereabouts after an uneventful journey on lovely empty roads….the last half hour was the worst, window open and LOUD singing to Squeeze tape to stay awake.

I’ll add to the fashion report with the sighting of Glenn’s legs as he turned up afterwards in shorts..good for a laugh anyway!

I’d gone down to Southampton with my 19-year-old daughter….I don’t often do the long-distance gigs these days, getting too old for it (positively wimpy compared to Gill’s five gigs in five days!). Glenn arrived in his humungous RV just five minutes before doors were supposed to open and
proceeded to move two punters from the carpark to make room for him. Quick soundcheck and we were in!
The support (Darren something, an Aussie?) was pretty stunning, reminded me of Howard New (who?).
No shiny new guitar this time, back to the old faithfuls. Hair still long, a la D&T days almost! Opened with Red Dragon Tattoo, then the rest was a blur but included Hope fell Down and No Place Like Home (haven’t seen him do them for ages!), Voodoo Chile, The Truth, SFP, Baby I Don’t Care, Without You Here (having been given the words by a member of the audience), Tempted, Slap And Tickle, Touching Me Touching You, Randy Newman, This Summer, Observatory, Wine Spodee Odee, Piccadilly, Hourglass, Up The Junction, Another Nail, Is That Love, You Won’t See Me, Cash Machine, Goodbye Girl (from the roof of his RV) and Pulling Mussels in the carpark (rather than From the Shell), and probably more I’ve forgotten. Brilliant as always, in good voice and quite a bit slimmer than last time I saw him. Must be the sleepless nights!
Afterwards we were honoured to share the warm if sweaty Glenn love, It’s lovely to be greeted like an old friend even if he hasn’t a clue who I am other than a face that keeps turning up, and the few of us that were persistent enough to stay and pester him were treated to a rendition of Temptation for Love by request….shame he couldn’t remember all the words, I’ve seen him do this stunningly, but it was pretty special anyway, and I had to bite my tongue not to join in with the harmony (which is really too high for me….).
Oh, and if the person whose pint my daughter accidentally put her elbow in is on the list, I’m really really sorry……take consolation in the fact that she got the whole thing down herself and stank like a brewery on the way home!
