Well, what can I say? The man, as ever, was brilliant. Fashion report….jeans, trainers, brown teeshirt with a logo of some sort….a bit more poundage than last time I saw him…hair a little shorter than of late, yet still somehow untamed…… Mr. Kyps is a great venue, well-suited to Glenn’s form of mayhem (and he’s taking the Fluffers back there in November!), though at
times it seemed the audience didn’t quite know what hit them. I’m no good with set lists, but he did the usual smattering of Squeeze songs (including Letting Go which I hadn’t heard him do …maybe ever) and solo stuff, plus a very few covers….a lovely touch…when someone called out for Randy Newman he played Guilty, a marvellous RN song (brilliantly covered by Nazareth….oops, showing
my age again)….thanks for that Glenn. Thanks too for playing my request, Walk Away, which has been off the repertoire for a while…..just brilliant. He tried the two-chair mobile stage during Goodbye Girl…but broke a chair. And an attempt to get the audience to do the correct harmonies on Tempted was perhaps not such a good move as it didn’t quite come off, though there was much
merriment. Really, though, a great night…over two hours, then he announced he’d be selling merch from his RV if anyone wished to knock on the door…needless to say there was quite a queue when I left. Because of said queue I didn’t hang around to say hi and get my obligatory hug, as we (daughter and I) had a long arduous drive home and I was exhausted. I did consider sleeping in my van but it was sooo cold I decided a two-hour drive on bloody awful winding roads while propping my eyelids open and taking frequent sugar hits from a bottle of coke was a better idea. Next time I really will have to stay overnight…..maybe I need to get a camper van!
