Well, it was a long drive, which started out from a very wet and miserable London. Just 50 mins later as we passed Milton Keynes and headed onto Northampton the rain disappeared and the cloud became brighter and just lifted the spirits a little. Further up the M1 roadworks which last *ages* slowed us down a little, but eventually we arrived at our destination! The Whiterose Shopping centre, Leeds!!!! Yes, we had arranged to meet the other Glenn Listers there, as Wakefield on a Sunday is, to say the least, quiet (just think of any Sunday in UK back in the 1970’s and you will see what I mean).

After a quick wander around, followed by a quick dash to the hotel for “refreshing”, finally the 5 car “convoy” set off for the short drive to the venue. We arrived and found a place to park and then started wandering looking for a bite to eat before the gig – eventually ending up in a Whetherspoons, which thankfully “filled the hole” and then just time for a quick drink and a natter about times past and then we were back “on the road” again. Mostly by foot, and in the rain, which had now reached Wakefield. The theatre itself is a lovely building and is a perfect example of what i would call “Provincial Theatre” Its a very small theatre which is great because even if you are right at the back you still get a good view. The building itself was very oranate and was splendid in its detail when it came to the decorative side of things. The staff were very kind and courteous.
On to the show and we started off with a solo singer called Arron who we both enjoyed – and seemed to be a “local, from Manchester”

At 8.15 Glenn came on (solo) and took us through some numbers, including Harper Valley PTA, Hostage and Best of Times.

This was followed by a break and then Glenn returned with Simon Hanson and they kicked off the second half with I Feel Good, Mumbo Jumbo, Untouchable, Parallel World, Annie and Still to name a few. When asking for a request, I shouted for “Vicky Verky” and they obliged, which was nice as this was the first time I had heard this song live and was hoping it would be played. The penultimate song was “Is that love” and when it ended Glenn and Simon walked off and the house lights came up, (WOT, NO ENCORE!) at which point there was some cheering, some booing and even the very feint start of a slow hand clap – and alot of people no longer thinking “Is That Love”, but “Is That it”? However this was soon put right when Glenn and Simon walked back onto the stage and finished the night off with Mussels. I think it was just an accident by the staff more than anything.

Anyway, then it was off to the bar for a quick round of drinks and a natter with friends and we were soon joined by Glenn and Simon. At around 11.10 that was it, off to the cars, and the long drive back to London for us, arriving home at around 02.00am Thankfully the motoway was nice and clear even if it was cold and grit was being spread for the frost that was about to arrive. Lastly just to add, it was a very pleasent day/evening indeed with everyone we met with and I would like to say a special thank you to Mitzi, Sue, Gary, Cathy, Jane and Liz for their company and look forward to seeing you all again sometime soon.

Must dash – need to buy some tickets for Reading – anyone else going?

Ah so that was you who shouted for Vicky Verky? Me and my Dad had been discussing this in the bar at half-time, and he remarked he’d “never seen Glenn or Squeeze play it live” so when this happened were very happy!

It was a great show. The support was a guy called Garron Firth, I bought his album on the night and it’s a great listen.

  @Jose, would have loved to have seen it. Vicky Verky should be included in a regular set. It’s one of their best!
