Setlists

One of the great things about running www.packetofthree.com is the constant surprise of finding bits of Squeeze history hidden in people’s scrapbooks. Here’s a fantastic setlist from sometime in 1976:

Wow. That’s like the Beatles Decca audition tape. Since A&M has no rights to it, perhaps Glenn Tilbrook could clean it up and release it? Hint, hint.

I don’t recognise a single song on that list, apart from I Saw The Light, which I assume may have been a cover of the Todd Rundgren song?

Amazing that already by this stage they had so many original songs, and that so many were discarded before they recorded their first album.

“Let it Rock” was a Chuck-Berry-Rock’n’Roll Classic. “Monkey” is a self-penned R’n’R number that Dr. Feelgood recorded around 1978. “Rumours” was Squeeze’s signature song at that time (“If you bow to the queen, make sure your looks are clean, cos there’s rumours going round…”). “love potion no. 9” is another cover (Original from the Clovers (?) around 1959). I’m not sure about the other songs …
