Canterbury is such a great city, to see the cathdral lit up in the night sky is something everybody should experience, but the actual venue was a bit strange.
It was the kind of building that you’d take your car for an MOT.
It was so hot near the front my blue shirt slowly turned navy as the night went on and Glenn needed three fans.
Mancie Baker opened the evening and sped through some songs about boyfriends. Very talented, just not my cup of tea.
Squeeze came on and did exactly what you’d expect. Played great music brilliantly. Lucy does fit in like a glove really, although it is weird not seeing JB up there.
Melvin Duffy definatly added to the sound with his skills.
The new songs sat nicely with the old ones and we had a new slant on one or two. I don’t want to spoil it by mentioning a style, but listen out for Slap & Tickle on the tour. It took two starts, but was worth the hiccup.
Glenn played so well, it was good to reliase he is human when during Pulling Mussels he got a little confused and we shrank in the sea twice, but there were no fat ladies playing bingo !
Open sounds great live and sits up there with any song I’ve ever heard, there was a number I hadn’t heard before ‘I don’t want to grow up’ which hopefully won’t make the final tour cut.
They played The Truth, what a song. Glenn played The Elephant Ride solo. Snap, Crackle & Pop sounded fantastic.
One last obervation. Chris’ guitar seemed so far down the mix I couldn’t hear it.
Guys, we’re in for a treat when the ‘real’ stuff starts.
