The Pelton was buzzing like a badly earthed light fitting in anticipation of the return of the Thirsty 3 and a 1/3rd. Just days before the start of the tour we had a chance to see them hone their set once more in the bosom of the pub that PubSpy called “fluffy and delicious”.
At the bar before the start I let Glenn and Simon know my suggestion for the band name Racket of Three and Glenn laughed his socks off and bought me a drink.
Traffic problems caused delays for those arriving via the Blackwall Tunnel, with Cathy appearing moments before the show started, and Neal and Mrs Neal a short while before Cathy.
The stage was set the same as last week, with the exception of the lamp, no longer in front of Glenn, and with the addition of a sound desk and engineer. The sound was a lot better than last week, and the arrangements too. Simon’s singing was stronger but Chris is still too quiet. He did use Glenn’s mic this week so it may be an inherent reticence rather than anything else. The new songs are sounding good with Cathy and I debating whether Persephone is more Paint it Black or T-Rex, and the title of Simon’s song is “Kev and Dave”. When he clambered to the mic he proclaimed “never let the drummer sing” but hey, it worked okay for The Eagles, Carpenters and Genesis (sort of). Leon was invited up for additional percussion duties on Chatline Larry but he shyly declined.
The setlist was the same as last Thursday, despite being promised more songs, but there was a spark last night that was absent a week ago, which bodes well for the tour.
