A classic 1980 Kid Jensen Session

The Complete Squeeze BBC Sessions CD from 2008 wasn’t quite complete. It missed out my favourite Squeeze BBC session – a 1980 Kid Jensen session with the best versions of Another Nail, Pulling Mussels and Going Crazy. The BBC couldn’t find it in their archives when it came to the 2008 release. It was broadcast before the Argy Bargy album was released so it was our first chance to hear a recorded version of Pulling Mussels – and maybe Another Nail (I didn’t keep a note of the original date of broadcast).

Luckily I was there with a C-30 cassette (lasting only 15 minutes a side) which came free with our new Sharp music centre, to press the play and record piano keys on the built-in cassette recorder at the same time.

Am I the only one who recorded it off the radio? It appears to exist nowhere else.

I love the bass and the live feel to the recordings. It wasn’t until East Side Story that the band got that ‘feel’ to their recordings. Here are all three songs. Also listen out for those backing vocals in Pulling Mussels as well as the stunning guitar work.
