No Disco Kid, No

No Disco Kid, No
(Difford/Tilbrook)

1975 version with Paul Gunn

I looked at her
She looked at me
Our eyes had met
Our eyes agreed
I made a pass
Successfully
The light was blue
The music slow
I could not dance
Not on my own
I looked at her
She looked alone
Well I was too shy
Too busy being cute
Well my chance is pretty slim
Oh well anyway I tried
I bashed the Chelsea suit
I guess I’m
No disco kid no
I guess I’m
No disco kid no

I watched her rock
I liked the move
I took her hand
To made the groove
She laid it on
My path was smooth
We crept around
I made the bar
I told the truth
I had no car
Her lips were close
But her heart was far

Well I was too shy
Too busy being cute
Well my chance is pretty slim
Oh well anyway I tried
I bashed the Chelsea suit
I guess I’m
No disco kid no
I guess I’m
No disco kid no
I guess I’m
No disco kid no
I guess I’m
No disco kid no

No disco kid, no

Disco Kid

(Difford/Tilbrook)

1976 version with Gilson from the CD Never Mind the S*x Pistols

I looked at her
She looked at me
Our eyes had met
Our eyes agreed
I made a pass
Successfully
The light was blue
The music slow
I could not dance
Not on my own
I looked at her
She looked alone

Well I was too shy
Too busy being cute
Well my chance is pretty slim
Oh well anyway I tried
I bashed the Chelsea suit
I guess I’m
No disco kid no
I guess I’m
No disco kid no

I watched her rock
I liked the move
I took her hand
And made the groove
She laid it on
My path was smooth
We crept around
I made the bar
I told the truth
I had no car
Her lips were close
But her heart was far

Well I was too shy
Too busy being cute
Well my chance is pretty slim
Oh well anyway I tried
I bashed the Chelsea suit
I guess I’m
No disco kid no
I guess I’m
No disco kid no
I guess I’m

No Disco Kid No (NDK)

(Difford/Tilbrook)

Chris Holland version

I looked at her
She looked at me
Our eyes had met
Our eyes agreed
I made a pass
Successfully
I could not dance
Out on my own
I looked at her
She looked alone

Well I was too shy
Too busy being cute
Well my chance is pretty slim
Oh well anyway I tried
That’s the state I’m in
I guess I’m
No disco kid no
I guess I’m
No disco kid no

I jerked to rock
I liked that move
I took her hand
And I met the groove
I told the truth
I had no car
Her lips were close
But her heart was far

Well I was too shy
Too busy being cute
Well my chance is pretty slim
Oh well anyway I tried
That’s the state I’m in
I guess I’m
No disco kid no
I guess I’m
No disco kid no
I guess I’m
No disco kid no
I guess I’m
No disco kid no

No disc, no disco, no disco kid no

  1. This is a better attempt at deciphering the lyrics than I was able to do. I don’t know if it was deliberate but Glenn’s vocal is distant. It’s almost like he’s singing in a different room to the microphone. I’ve not heard the 1975 version, is it much different? Chris Holland’s version is really good, almost make me want to get in to the groove – and I’m certainly no disco kid.
