If you could collaborate with anyone, who would you choose and why?

Kraftwerk, they have been such an enormous influence on me.

I found that statement a little odd.

Glenn Tilbrook is back with a brand new album and we got the opportunity to put some questions to him about his recent tour, new material and life as a solo artist.

You finished your acoustic tour in December – how did you find that experience?

I very much enjoyed being on my own on the stage, it is a great freedom and I love to communicate with the audience.

You’re back with new album ‘Happy Ending’ – how did you find the creative process for this record?

It is the first acoustic album that I have done and I have found the songwriting experience for that to be really invigorating. I have always liked the idea of songs that you can play on just one instrument and on this album I can do that with all the songs.

What can fans expect from your music this time round?

A bit of social comment, a bit of music hall fun, some political statements and songs about south London characters.

How would you describe yourself as an artist?

I’ve loved music since I can remember from when I was a kid and for me it is all about discovery and growth and not standing still.

How different is the business when you’re solo compared to when you’re with Squeeze?

It is a smaller world that I inhabit by myself.

Squeeze formed in the 1970s, how much would you say music has changed since then?

The availability of music is fantastic now. I love Spotify and Youtube and my 11 year old son, Leon, has discovered Jimmy Hendrix for himself. That is a wonderful thing to see.

What can we expect from you in the coming months, aside from the new album?

Chris Difford and I are starting to write for a new project, I am very excited about that. I will be doing a handful of my own shows throughout the year, as well as my commitments with Chris and Squeeze. It is going to be a busy year!
