Squeeze Covered – Up the Junction

There are a lot more covers in my record collection than I had thought. Some of them I knew were covers when they were bought such as “Jealous Guy” by Roxy Music, “It Must Be Love” by Madness and “Something ‘bout You Baby I Like” by Status Quo. Then there are others that I didn’t find out were covers until I read the details on the record label or even later such as “I Go To Sleep” by The Pretenders (Chrissie Hynde’s vocal on that is just stunning), “Hold Me” by BA Robertson and Maggie Bell and “Sorrow” by Bowie. Occasionally, I bought a single specifically for the b-side, like “The Ballad Of Mack The Knife” by Sting and “I Saw Her Standing There” by The Elton John Band featuring John Lennon & The Muscle Shoals Horns. I include the latter as a cover because it is one of Paul’s songs.

This week’s cover came as a bit of a surprise to me as, although aware of They Might Be Giants, I would never have thought they would cover “[[Up The Junction]]”. They did a fine job!

More 7” wonders next week so, until then, toodle pip!
