John Bentley make a new heavy metal album

Squeeze bassist John Bentley has continued his rich vein of form by making – yes, you didn’t guess it – a heavy metal album. He’s put together a band with Bill Liesegang on guitar and Barry Fitzgerald on drums and backing vocals. I’ve been playing it all week and haven’t stopped smiling. The band’s name? Totenwitz, which means ‘buried head first’. Here’s the link to buy a copy of the CD from the ever wonderful Plane Groovy:

A virtual history by John Bentley:

Band Name: Totenwitz
Translation: Buried Head First
Album Title: Decomposed

Over the last year or so the 3 members of Totenwitz decided to write and record a Heavy Metal Album. Because of the Pandemic we did this by swapping music files over the internet. Each musician has his own studio built into his house. Ironically we have never actually met each other! Which is probably just as well. Our debut album ‘Decomposed’ is available here.

The musicians:

Bill Liesegang – Guitar
Barry Fitzgerald – Drums + BVs
John Bentley – Bass + Vocals

Bill Liesegang has had an astonishing career in music. Working as a guitar player and writer on albums and projects, as well as live with:
Rod Stewart
Bruce Dickenson
Mark King
David Bowie
Midge Ure
Red Hot Chilli Peppers
the list goes on… http://liesegang.wixsite.com/info

Barry Fitzgerald has toured and recorded with Nina Hagen and Jack Bruce

John Bentley has played and recorded with
Squeeze
Keith Emerson
Elvis Costello
Dave Edmunds
Mike Chapman
Garth Brooks
Sting

It’s great fun, beautifully played, and an enjoyable romp through everything you’d want in heavy metal, with up-front drums, solid bass and plenty of melodic guitar-hero solos throughout. I smiled the whole way through.

Don’t bury your head first in the sand – buy a copy!
