New Glenn song with video!
FluffersTV has posted a new video, that features a new-to-most-of-us song by Glenn! It’s called “0-60″, and was apparently released on some import versions of Pandemonium Ensues, but I’d never heard it before. The song is about an encounter Glenn had with the long arm of the law when he staged a one man “artistic protest” against a double parked car. He tells the story in more detail in this clip from The Wright Stuff, at about the 3:20 mark, and reveals that he is now on the DNA database – and not happy about it!
The song is surprisingly catchy considering the subject matter, and I love how at the end he concludes that he’ll be counting to ten from now on if he feels the urge to act on his anger! (Even artistically.)

Come yap with us!
David has added a new social networking function to Po3, so people can leave messages here like you would on Facebook. Only here it is such a small community that it feels more like a chat room! To find it, click here or choose “signup” from the Yap Yap Yap text link at the top of this page. To sign up you only need to come up with a name (any name), an email address, and a password of your choosing. Once you have an account you can also add an avatar (a picture, like my lettuce!) and as much or little information as you want in your profile.
Now, I’m gonna level with you and tell you that I didn’t know anything at all about social networking before this. It’s a little embarrassing to admit, but I figure you might be just the same, in which case you may think this is not for you. When David told me about it I was like, “What’s it for?” The only real answer to that question (and the one he gave me) is that the easiest way to learn is by doing, so just go sign up for it and have a look around. It’s fun!
In order to have anything to look at you need to make some friends, but that’s not very hard. In fact, David set it up so that everyone is my friend by default! (I wouldn’t be at all surprised if you are also his friend automatically…) So far there are 36 people there, and they’re all very friendly; I’m pretty sure any one of them would respond to a friend request from a fellow Squeeze fan!
Once you have some friends you can just choose “wall posts” from the drop down menu at the Yap Yap Yap link, and go see what people are talking about! Current chatter is about the UK tour dates for Squeeze, guessing the name of Squeeze’s new US label, and questions about Yap Yap Yap itself such as, “Will it work on my mobile device?” (Yes!)
If you have any questions or problems getting set up, just ask them in the comments for this post. That way if anyone else has a similar issue they will get the answer they need too. Come on over and yap with us!

Glenn Tilbrook and Nine Below Zero – 25 March 2010 – live at the Pavilion, Cork City
Before Blur and the rest of the Britpop bands reclaimed pop music for the UK, a bunch of mates from South East London were doing very much the same thing. Emerging from the hit and miss post punk / new wave scene, Squeeze had a troubled career personally but produced some of the greatest songs of era. With the band coming and going as they feel like it, relive those heady days with Tilbrook in his solo guise. Support comes from….crikey….Nine Below Zero.

SQUEEZE announce biggest UK tour in 10years
Here’s the Press Release:
Plus special guests THE LIGHTNING SEEDS
TICKETS ON SALE FRIDAY 26TH MARCH @ 9AM
South Londons favourite sons will return to what they do best this winter when Squeeze take to the road for their biggest UK tour in over 10 years! The boys will invite their fans to Spot The Difference at 21 dates across the country, kicking off in Bournemouth on 14th November and concluding by returning home to play three separate London venues in three days.
Releasing their first EP the cheekily titled Packet Of Three – in 1977, Squeeze shot to fame thanks to the pithy kitchen-sink lyrics and new wave guitar music that have since become their trademark. Having numbered Jools Holland and Paul Carrack within their ranks, and working with the likes of Elvis Costello and Velvet Undergrounds John Cale, Squeeze became a fixture of the UKs music scene over the course of their 13-album career, before splitting in 1998.
Despite tentatively reforming in 2007, Squeeze have so far refused to tread the well-worn reunion path by trading on their past glories, which have included hit singles on both sides of the Atlantic such as Cool For Cats, Tempted, Hourglass and Up The Junction.
Instead they have gradually been re-establishing the informal live show that made them such favourites in the first place, their festival appearances and gigs to date honing the chemistry that saw co-founders and ever-presents Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook dubbed The New Lennon and McCartney. They are joined on this tour by fellow Squeeze favourite John Bentley, with the line-up completed by Glenns solo band-mates Stephen Large and Simon Hanson.
This set of dates will cap an exhilarating 2010 for the Squeeze boys. In March they will have the site of their first ever gig in Greenwich commemorated by a PRS for Music Heritage Award, one of only a few bands to receive this honour alongside Blur and Dire Straits, while summer will find them playing to their fans in the USA Squeeze having long made a mockery of the belief that English bands cannot travel across the pond. Away from the band, both Chris and Glenn were involved in the Barbicans inaugural Songs In The Key of London in March, an event curated by Chris that brought together the likes of Elvis Costello, Suggs, Jools Holland, Phil Daniels and many more. Both continue to gig separately as well, with Glenn having released his third solo album Pandemonium Ensues last year, while Chris has also been busy recording his new album Cashmere If You Can, which will see a release through the innovative new Saturday Morning Music Club label.
Chris and Glenn are hoping to spend this summer writing material together for a new Squeeze album next year.
Over 30 years after Packet Of Three, will Squeeze fans be able to spot the difference? Certainly not if the infectious enthusiasm that the band still bring to their live shows is anything to go by!

Fantastic!
Glenn Tilbrook – 24 March 2010 – live at the Forum, Waterford
Squeeze plaque unveiling!
As Quixotic Records mentioned, Squeeze were honored today with a heritage plaque commemorating the first venue they ever played, back in 1975. I thought the speech by the chairman of PRS for Music was really quite touching! I guess I should have expected a lot of Squeeze love, considering this is only the fourth plaque they have done. Snipturn put up a video of the ceremony on YouTube, so we can all see!
Later in the day, Squeezeliveblog put up a great video of Chris, Glenn, and Stephen Large doing Up the Junction (with Glenn ending up lying on the piano no less!) from the concert that followed the award ceremony.
And snipturn, who never lets us down, followed it up with a fantastic video of Goodbye Girl, featuring an amazing solo by Stephen, and a rousing version of Take Me, which includes improvised percussion from the whole band, and eventually the whole audience! These are both very lively, fun videos, so don’t miss them!
It is great to see Glenn and Chris (and the rest of the band, of course!) receive this well-deserved award, and then clearly enjoying themselves playing afterwards. I know that many of us feel like they don’t get anywhere near the recognition they deserve for their amazing talent and the influence they’ve had on the bands that have followed them. Congratulations, guys!

- Glenn gave me his iphone to take some pictures, and I didn’t know what to do with it!
- Not that Stephen and Simon are mad or anything!
- It was all a bit much for Glenn, he had to have a little nap.
